Meet ESI at JEC Europe!

11 March 2013 Paris, France
Europe’s largest exhibition for the composites industry

ESI Group, pioneer and world-leading solution provider in Virtual Prototyping for manufacturing industries, announces its participation at JEC Europe, March 12-14 in Paris, France. Located at booth Y60, Pavilion 1, ESI will feature live demonstrations of its Composites Simulation Suite. By accounting for the entire Composites Manufacturing Chain, the suite provides a comprehensive industrial capability to simulate the design, manufacturing and performance of composite parts.

ESI’s Composites Manufacturing Simulation Chain

JEC Europe is Europe’s largest exhibition for composites, attracting over 32,000 visitors in 2012; 80% from outside of France. Featuring a large exhibition and side conferences, JEC Europe covers the full spectrum of processes, new materials, and composite solutions.

JEC Europe provides ESI an opportunity to showcase its composites solutions for the aeronautics, automotive, wind energy, and marine industry sectors. Their Composites Simulation Suite, which includes PAM-FORM and PAM-RTM, allows designers and process engineers to dramatically decrease development time, production time and total cost. For instance, ESI’s Composites Simulation Suite enables the optimization of tooling and injection/infusion processes and consequently reduces the cost of manufacture and waste due to defective parts. It is also used to determine the best combination of resins and fibers, to support the manufacture of innovative designs.

Several ESI clients and partners will present industrial case studies during the JEC Europe conferences. Customer presentations will include:

  • March 12, 10:30 a.m., Design Conference: Formax, leading global manufacturer of composite reinforcements, presenting a paper about simulation and optimization of carbon multi-axial fabrics;
  • March 13, 10:30 a.m., Automotive Conference: Volkswagen AG, the largest carmaker in Europe, delivering a presentation about draping and filling simulations for efficient process design of Non-Crimp-Fabric (NCF) composites parts;
  • March 13, 2:30 p.m., Aeronautics Conference: Safran Composites, the recently created Composites R&D branch of Safran Group, promoting the use of simulation to support RTM process strategies for engine components; and CCHP, the high performance composite design & manufacturing Canada research chair, presenting the RTM process analysis and simulation of turbofan components.

These four industrial case studies clearly demonstrate ESI’s leadership for composites manufacturing simulation; addressing dry textile preforming, resin injection / infusion in the preform, curing and distortions prediction, and prepreg thermoforming. Furthermore ESI’s solutions enable the cause and effect relationships between the manufacturing processes and the structural performance to be determined by chaining the manufacturing simulation with virtual testing.

Companies using ESI’s Composites Simulation Suite include BOMBARDIER Transport, BMW, Chengdu Aircraft, DOW, EADS, GE R&D, GE India Technology Center, Nordex Energy, Pratt & Whitney, Siemens Wind Power, Snecma and VZLU; all global leaders in their respective domains.

In light of the advanced technology represented in the PAM-FORM and PAM-RTM software, it is not surprising to learn that they are also used in teaching and research at numerous reputable Universities across the world.
